Explore St. Lucian Culture with Charlemagne
CASTRIES:
The heart of a vibrant nation where you visit the vegetable
market, craft vendors arcade, the minor Basilica, with mural
inside painted by St. Lucian artist Dunstan St. Omer, Derek
Walcott Square – named after one of two Nobel laureates,
previously named after Christopher Columbus .
MORNE FORTUNE:
A fantastic photo opportunity, over-looking Castries Harbor
and the north of the island, conveniently located at the
foot of the Governor General’s residence. The highest
grave yard in St. Lucia is also located at Morne Fortune
right next to the ruins of the French and British war ruins.
MARIGOT BAY:
This bay is a safe haven for yachts particularly during the hurricane
season. Yachts under the Moorings flag make Marigot one of their bases
of operation. In the bosom of this bay lies a number of small of hotels
and the area is famous for film scenes for movies like Fire Power featuring
O.J. Simpson and Dr. Dolittle featuring Rex Harrison .
ROSEAU VALLEY:
In this valley lies a 65 acre banana plantation and our
only rum distillery.
FISHING VILLAGES:
ANSE LA RAYE:
A 5 minute stop in this village will allow you to see fishermen
and their equipment (wooden boats and nets).
CANARIES:
Canaries is another fishing village where you might catch
a glimpse of local housewives doing laundry in the fresh,
flowing waters of nearby rivers.
GRAND BOIS ESTATE:
Drive through this rainforest area where you can see the
biggest fern leaves in a lifetime.
SOUFRIERE:
Colombette viewing point:
Stand where you feel as if you’re on top of the world, and view
the multicolored array of the town’s rooftops leading
visitors to what was then the French Capital during the
battle for St.Lucia. Also visible from this point is the
world’s only drive in volcano.
Pitons: A world heritage site of twin peaks majestically uprooted from
the ocean, also used as an unmistakable landmark for incoming
fishermen.
In Soufriere we visit the drive-in volcano where refreshments and local
snacks will be served (by your host). Hearing impaired facilitators
are on premises to assist persons who require it. Limited
wheelchair access to a restricted point is also available.
After this, visit yet another heritage site, which is located a few miles
from Soufriere town: The Toraille Waterfalls. There you
will be tempted to take a dip in the cool basins of clear,
fresh water.
Alas our tour is over and we return to the base safely with memories
of Simply Beautiful St. Lucia where you won’t stop
dreaming and wishing you could stay just a little while
longer.
